About the Position 

This position will support One Community Health by providing oversight of the dental clinic and dental services and preventive dental care to patients seen at One Community Health.  The Dental Director will work directly with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Medical Officer and Chief Operating Officer in developing a dynamic and efficient dental service. 

Core Duties

  • Demonstrates the ability to sufficiently provide direction of dental services, which includes development of protocols, policies, procedures, and management of all patient care related activities.
  • Supervises, advices, counsels and disciplines and performs regular evaluation of dental auxiliary staff and supports them in their development and training.
  • Efficiently coordinates and monitors all dental Continuous Quality Improvement activities and reports as directed.
  • Efficiently serve as a liaison with the local dental community and will review all dental provider contracts to provide professional dental advice to the Chief Medical Officer of One Community Health.
  • Works in conjunction with the Chief Executive Officer, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Operating Officer to prepare, review and revise budget, ordering process and procedures and the Dental Fee schedule.
  • Provides consultation to the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Medical Officer regarding dental and oral health operational issues.
  • Participates in recruitment/retention activities as necessary.
  • Function as a member of the care team and as such actively collaborates with other clinical and non-clinical staff to ensure care is proactive and coordinated among care providers and care settings.  This collaboration includes attendance at daily team huddles, care conferences and training, communication processes including the electronic health record and effective patient communication. 
  • As directed by the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Medical Officer, performs other related and/or necessary tasks to achieve organizational and programmatic goals and objectives.

 

PATIENT CARE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs patient exams, diagnoses dental disease and conditions, evaluates oral health and plans; and, provides treatment using principles of theories, and practices of dentistry (requirement on average is 40% clinical time).
  • Makes independent decisions in regards to replacement teeth, cleaning, fillings, and extractions with use of hand instruments, medication or other applicable services.
  • Assumes quality of care for all dental patients seen at One Community Health.
  • Adheres to the highest standard of dental practice, ethics and professionalism at all times.
  • Ability to enter dental services into the One Community Health Electronic Health Record using the dental template.
  • Recommend changes in all dental clinical services or in general to improve patient flow, dental record, dental billing and appointment practices.
  • Ability to relate to the public and patients regardless of race, color, religion, sex, ethnic origin, age, disability or economic status.
  • Responsible for compliance of clinic personnel with OSHA standards, HIPAA privacy, and other applicable federal and state laws, regarding the practice of dentistry.

 

Additional duties are assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES      

This position provides oversight of assigned staff in Dental department to include administrative supervision such as writing staff reviews, annual goals, document training plans, and managing time and attendance.

Education and/or Experience Required

  • Graduate from an accredited dental school.
  • Must have a California dental license.
  • Must have a Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) license.
  • Professional clinical dental experience in practicing dentistry.
  • Interest in design and evaluation of efficiency of a dental program in a community health center setting.
  • Authoritative knowledge of the practice and techniques of dentistry as a general practitioner in a community health center is highly desirable.
  • Licenses required for this position must be kept current, valid, and in good standing with the presiding entity.
